Alkhidmat Foundation and its chapters observed World Blood Donor Day across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 
Blood donation camps, events, and awareness walks were held at Alkhidmat Hospitals, where people from various backgrounds donated blood. 
Provincial President Khalid Waqas, Vice President Fida Muhammad Khan, District Presidents, hospital directors, health professionals, and children receiving treatment at Alkhidmat Thalassemia Centers participated in the events and walks. 
On the occasion gifts were distributed to the children suffering from thalassemia.

In these unprecedented times, the world is undergoing the horrific and terrifying effects of global warming. On daily basis, the actions of the developed countries are being faced by the weak, developing countries like Pakistan. Although, Pakistan only contributes about 1 percent to the global warming, yet the citizens experience the wreaked havoc on them through the calamities_ floods, heat waves and drought meet their fate. With temperatures skyrocketing during the day time, working becomes insufferable as people receive heatstroke, parched from the sunlight and every step taken, every kilometre covered drains a fundamental part of their&nbsp;strength.&nbsp;

The dire circumstances remain a poignant reminder for what awaits us in the future. The happenings of global warming remain unpredictable and a complete mystery. At the same time, admirable work has been initiated by many organisations like&nbsp;Alkhidmat Pakistan; taking a&nbsp;lead in projects being completed for the environmental sustainability, it endeavours for making a difference in the society.&nbsp;

When days stretch on like a desert and suffocating heat envelops&nbsp;the major cities across the country like Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi, Alkhidmat has remained resolute in its journey of spreading public awareness about global warning. It has rendered many contributions for example starting a mission of planting trees in Pakistan. &ldquo;Clean and Green Pakistan&rsquo; is the epitome of their hard work. Additionally, it has provided relief in the form of ration distribution and health-care facilities to the people in flood affected areas. The rehabilitation of people affected by the pernicious climatic conditions has made living easier for many. Rescue motorbikes aid in the rapid procession of relief.&nbsp;

In order to cope with the blistering heat, Alkhidmat has installed water pumps in many cities. As a committed and proactive organisation, its dedication has been displayed on multiple occasions. The ongoing &lsquo;Sar Sabz Pakistan&rsquo; campaign aims for planting trees as a crucial solution for controlling the escalating global warming. Resultantly, it would not only guarantee a healthy and secure future, but also reduce the smog that covers cities during the winter. Alkhidmat has also advocated for ways to combat global warming by holding workshops. Its perseverance in this mission is exceptional.&nbsp;

If continued, the contributions being made by Alkhidmat can form a climate-resilient Pakistan. A country with people living and not just surviving. So that life could be worth celebrating and cherishing, a rare treasure to be blessed with. From today onwards, every person should vow to make a change. To contribute. Because if we want to do something, then the time does not wait. Rather we should be making the best of it.

It would be impossible to imagine lush green scenery without any grass or trees, wouldn&rsquo;t it? How a sight for our sore eyes are these big, beautiful landscapes of our country! How wonderful would it be if we contribute to this beauty of our own environment!

Alkhidmat Foundation is investing yet again in a transformative journey towards a greener and more climate-resilient Pakistan. As we face the pressing challenges of climate change, Alkhidmat Tree Plantation campaign 2024 aims to sow the seeds of hope and sustainability across the nation. According to the 2020 edition of the environmental performance index (EPI) ranking (released by Yale Center for Environmental Law &amp; Policy ) Pakistan ranks 142 with an EPI score of 33.1, an increase of 6.1 over a 10-year period. It ranked 180 in terms of air quality.

This is alarming for a country where agriculture is a significant sector of the economy and millions of livelihoods depend on forestry. Emergent measures are needed to stabilize the Pakistani agriculture sector and make sustainable environment conservation Alkhidmat Tree Plantation campaign will help ensure the resilience of the ecosystem in face of dire climate conditions.&nbsp;

Climate-induced disasters have recently taken a toll on Pakistan, impacting both its people and the environment. From devastating floods in the North and South to severe heat waves across our country, we have faced a wide range of challenges due to climate change and deforestation. In recent years, the country has seen an increase in the frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events often leading to widespread destruction and loss of life including humans, livestock and plants.&nbsp;

Floods, landslides and irrigational malfunctions have been a commonly recurring disaster in Pakistan for the past few years. We witnessed them causing displacement of thousands of people from their homes, the destruction of roads, buildings and crops. Our vulnerability to floods is exacerbated by factors like deforestation and poor urban planning. Soil erosion is the core issue faced by the vast stretches of treeless land. Scorching heat waves have become more common and led to hundreds of deaths by dehydration and heat stroke across Pakistan. Air quality and oxygenation have also declined significantly all because of the deficiency of trees.&nbsp;&nbsp;

These climate-induced disasters highlight the urgent need for quick adaptation strategies in Pakistan. Consistent efforts like the Alkhidmat Tree Planting campaign are crucial steps to minimize the impact of future disasters. There is a lack of governmental attention to the ecological welfare of the country which means organizations and individuals must work together to address these issues and build a more resilient Pakistan.&nbsp;

With the help of this blog, we at Alkhidmat hope to raise awareness and highlight the urgent need for tree planting to combat climate change, restore ecosystems and improve air quality.

Pakistan has faced numerous natural disasters over the years, with floods being one of the most frequent and devastating. These floods, often triggered by heavy monsoon rains and glacial melt in the mountainous northern regions, have caused significant economic and human losses. Understanding the scale of these impacts is crucial for grasping the full extent of the challenges faced by Pakistan and the urgent need for effective disaster management and mitigation strategies.

Human Losses: A Devastating Toll on Lives

The human cost of floods in Pakistan is staggering. Over the past few decades, thousands of lives have been lost to these disasters, with millions more affected through injuries, loss of homes, and displacement. For instance, the 2010 floods, one of the worst in the country&rsquo;s history, affected more than 20 million people. Approximately 1,985 people lost their lives, and over 3,000 were injured. The floods also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals, exacerbating the suffering of the affected populations.

Beyond the immediate loss of life, floods in Pakistan have long-term impacts on human health and well-being. Displacement often leads to overcrowded living conditions in temporary shelters, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks such as cholera, malaria, and dengue fever. The psychological impact of losing loved ones, homes, and livelihoods can lead to long-term mental health issues, including depression and anxiety. Children, in particular, are vulnerable to the effects of floods, as disruptions to education and healthcare services can have lasting impacts on their development and future opportunities.

Economic Losses: A Strain on Development

The economic losses resulting from floods and other natural disasters in Pakistan are equally severe, placing a substantial strain on the country&#39;s economy. The 2010 floods alone caused economic damages estimated at $10 billion. This figure includes direct losses, such as the destruction of property and infrastructure, as well as indirect losses, including the disruption of economic activities, loss of income, and increased costs for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Agriculture, a critical sector in Pakistan&rsquo;s economy, is particularly vulnerable to floods. Crops, livestock, and irrigation systems often suffer extensive damage, leading to significant losses for farmers and a decrease in food security. In the 2010 floods, for instance, approximately 1.6 million acres of cultivated land were damaged, leading to losses in crops such as cotton, wheat, and sugarcane. This not only affects farmers but also has a ripple effect throughout the economy, impacting food prices and contributing to inflation.

The industrial sector is also affected, particularly in urban areas where floods can disrupt supply chains, damage manufacturing facilities, and hinder transportation networks. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are often less resilient to such shocks, face the risk of closure, leading to job losses and reduced economic activity. Moreover, the damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power lines, can take years to repair, slowing down economic recovery and development.

Social and Environmental Impacts: Beyond the Immediate Losses

The impacts of floods in Pakistan go beyond immediate human and economic losses. Socially, floods often exacerbate existing inequalities and vulnerabilities. Marginalized communities, including women, children, and the elderly, are disproportionately affected by floods due to limited access to resources, services, and decision-making processes. Women, for example, often bear the brunt of disasters as they are primarily responsible for caregiving and household management, which becomes even more challenging during and after floods.

Environmentally, floods can lead to soil erosion, loss of fertile land, and degradation of water quality, affecting agriculture and drinking water supplies. The destruction of natural habitats and ecosystems can have long-term consequences for biodiversity and environmental sustainability. In addition, the recurrence of floods can lead to land degradation, reducing the productivity of the land and increasing the vulnerability of communities to future disasters.

Challenges and the Way Forward

Pakistan&rsquo;s vulnerability to floods is exacerbated by several factors, including rapid population growth, urbanization, deforestation, and inadequate infrastructure. Climate change is also playing a significant role, as changing weather patterns and increasing temperatures are leading to more frequent and intense rainfall events, glacial melt, and rising sea levels.

Addressing the challenges posed by floods and other natural disasters in Pakistan requires a multi-faceted approach. Effective disaster management strategies should include early warning systems, improved infrastructure, and community-based disaster risk reduction programs. There is also a need for better land use planning, reforestation, and investment in sustainable agricultural practices to reduce vulnerability to floods.

Moreover, building resilience to floods requires a focus on social inclusion and equity. Ensuring that all communities, particularly the most vulnerable, have access to resources, services, and decision-making processes is crucial for effective disaster risk management. Empowering communities through education, training, and capacity-building initiatives can also enhance their ability to cope with and recover from floods.

مرکزی نائب صدروچئیرمین الخدمت ڈیزاسٹرمینجمنٹ اعجازاللہ خان کی زیرصدارت آن لائن اجلاس میں جاری امدادی سرگرمیوں کاجائزہ لے کر آئندہ کے لئے پلاننگ کی گئی۔اعجازاللہ خان نے کہاکہ قدرتی آفت سے نمٹنے کیلئے تمام وسائل اور صلاحیتیں بروئے کارلائیں گے۔ الخدمت کے رضاکارہمار ا سرمایہ ہیں جو اپنی جان کی پروانہ کرتے ہوئے مصیبت میں گھرے انسانوں کی بلاتفریق مددکرتے ہیں۔ قبل ازیں شعبہ ڈیزاسٹرمینجمنٹ الخدمت فاؤنڈیشن پاکستان نے اقوام متحدہ کے ادارے اوسی ایچ اے (اوچا)کے اشتراک سے ڈی ایم سی راولپنڈی میں رضاکاروں کی دو &nbsp;روزہ ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ ٹریننگ ورکشاپ کا انعقاد کیا۔

کوارڈینیشن یونٹ اوچا کی سربراہ م فریدہ کاسویو اور نیشنل ڈائریکٹر الخدمت ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ فضل محمود ٹریننگ کے اختتامی سیشن میں شریک ہوئے اور شریک رضاکاروں کے جذبے کوسراہا۔فضل محمود نے اس موقع پر گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہاکہ الخدمت فاؤنڈیشن موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں اور قدرتی آفات سے نمٹنے کیلئے پوری طرح پرعز م ہے حالیہ بارشوں اور سیلاب کے پیش نظرپاکستان بھرمیں مرکزی،ریجنل اور اضلاع میں ٹیمیں مکمل الرٹ اورسیلاب سے متاثرہ علاقوں میں امدادی سرگرمیاں جاری رکھے ہوئے ہیں۔

الخدمت فاؤنڈیشن اب تک 3ہزار رضاکاروں کی ٹریننگ مکمل کرواچکی ہے،10ہزار رضاکاروں کو ڈیزاسٹرسے نمٹنے کی ٹریننگ کروائیں گے۔انھوں نے کہاکہ ڈی ایم سی راولپنڈی،لاہور،پشاور،کوئٹہ،کراچی،اور گلگت بلتستان میں ا س سیریزکی 6ٹریننگ ورکشاپس کاانعقاد کررہے ہیں جن میں ریجنل اوراضلاع سے رضاکارشریک ہوں گے۔ پاکستان میں انفارمیشن مینجمنٹ یونٹ اوچا کے سربراہ نعمان طاہر نے رضاکاروں کی ٹریننگ کے مختلف سیشن کروائے،دوسرے دن کی عملی مشق میں شرکاء کو مختلف گروپس تشکیل دے کر آفات سے بچاؤں کے عملی اقدامات کی تربیت دی گئی۔
