What is the Significance of Eid al-Adha?

Eid al-Adha is one of the two major Eids celebrated by Muslims each year, a special occasion filled with joy and reflection.

On this blessed day, we remember the profound sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to offer his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

To honor this act of devotion and to support those in need, we too offer a sacrifice  Qurbani as a means of sharing our blessings with the less fortunate.

How Long Does Eid al-Adha Last?

Eid al-Adha is celebrated over a span of 3 days, starting from the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. This period includes the Eid prayers, the act of Qurbani (sacrifice), and communal gatherings, marking a time of joy, reflection, and giving.

The Act of Sacrifice on Eid al-Adha

After the Eid prayer on the first day of Eid al-Adha, we perform the act of Qurbani (sacrifice) in remembrance of the immense devotion shown by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to Allah (SWT).

A share of the meat, from animals such as sheep, goats, cows, or camels, is then distributed to support our brothers and sisters in need.

The Eid Prayer

The Eid prayer holds great importance on this blessed day. You can learn more about the proper way to perform the Eid prayer and its significance.

When Will Eid al-Adha Be Celebrated in 2025?

The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah 2025 are anticipated to begin on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, depending on the moon sighting. The 9th of Dhul Hijjah, which is the Day of Arafah, will fall on Thursday, 5 June 2025, and 10th Dhul Hijjah, marking Eid al-Adha, will be observed on Friday, 6 June 2025. As the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah shift 10 days earlier each year.

When Does Eid al-Adha Conclude?

Since Eid al-Adha is celebrated over 3 days, if the festival begins at sunset on 6th June 2025 (subject to the moon sighting), it will conclude on 9th June 2025.
