Qurbani, also known as Udhiya, is the ritual sacrifice of an animal during Eid-ul-Adha, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah. This act symbolizes devotion and obedience to Allah's commands.

What animals are permissible for Qurbani?

Permissible animals include camels, cattle (cows, bulls), sheep, and goats. These animals must meet specific age and health criteria to be eligible for sacrifice.

Can I donate money instead of performing Qurbani myself?

Yes, Alkhidmat Foundation offers an online Qurbani service where you can donate funds, and they will perform the sacrifice on your behalf, ensuring the meat reaches those in need.

How do I donate a Prophetic Qurbani with Alkhidmat?

While donating online, you may select an additional animal or mention “Prophetic Qurbani” in the instructions or payment note. Alkhidmat will perform it accordingly and distribute the meat to those in need.

Can a person offer Qurbani on behalf of someone else?

Yes. You can offer Qurbani on behalf of family members, deceased loved ones, or even the entire Ummah. The intention must be made clearly before the sacrifice.

What is the Nisab?

A person must offer Qurbani if they possess wealth equal to or more than the Nisab threshold 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver, or their equivalent in cash or assets, excluding personal needs (home, clothes, etc.)

Who is obligated to perform Qurbani?

Every adult Muslim who possesses wealth exceeding their basic needs (i.e., meets the Nisab threshold) is required to perform Qurbani. If you are eligible to pay Zakat, you are also obliged to offer Qurbani.

What are the age requirements for Qurbani animals?

● Goat/Sheep: At least one year old.
● Cow/Bull: At least two years old.
● Camel: At least five years old.

What is Prophetic Qurbani?

Prophetic Qurbani refers to the Sunnah practice of the Prophet Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلمoffering additional sacrifices beyond his obligatory Qurbani. He would sacrifice on behalf of himself and for those in his Ummah who could not afford to offer Qurbani.

What are the basic rules of Qurbani?

● The person offering Qurbani must be a Muslim, sane, and adult.
● Qurbani must be done during 10th–12th Dhul Hijjah (Eid days).
● The animal must be healthy and meet minimum age requirements.
● It must be slaughtered in the name of Allah.
● The intention (niyyah) must be made before the sacrifice.

Can I trim my nails or cut hair before doing Qurbani?

According to Sunnah, if you intend to offer Qurbani, you should refrain from cutting your hair and nails from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah until the sacrifice is done.

Should each earning member in the household perform Qurbani?

Yes. Each eligible adult Muslim in the household who meets the Nisab must perform their own individual Qurbani, or have it done on their behalf.
