Global Warming Is Not a Prediction It Is Happening
The atmosphere today contains more greenhouse gas molecules, so more of the infrared energy emitted by the surface ends up being absorbed by the atmosphere. It is estimated that since the beginning of the 20th century the earth’s atmospheric temperature has increased by 0.7-degree centigrade and if this increase continued at the same rate, by the end of the 21st century global temperature will increase by 2.5 to 3 degrees Centigrade.
“This increase in global temperature will have far-reaching effects on our natural environment” this type of statement was suitable more than a century ago but now the situation of the earth changed and the world is warming and heating up day by day and going through multiple horrendous catastrophes every year. We can see this change in different forms of natural disasters every year like the change in the magnitude of rainfall since June 2022 and it will further play its part in increasing poverty and health issues.
Pakistan is too at a high-risk to face climate crisis and natural disasters frequently such as flooding, drought, immense heatwaves, typhoons, land sliding, and earthquakes. The situation in Pakistan is a “wake-up call” for the world to know the threats of global warming, greenhouse gases and the dire need to identify the area where we need to immediately slow down
Pakistan is contributing less than 1% of greenhouse gases but extremely vulnerable country due to its geographical location. BBC and the UN Development Program reported that Glaciers are melting rapidly and creating more than 3000 lakes in Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan and KPK regions. The risk of sudden bursting and release of millions of cubic meters of water and debris could be putting 7 million people at risk. In the last week of August 2022,
The Climate Ministry Sherry Rahman said that "Literally, one-third of Pakistan is underwater right now, which has exceeded every boundary, every norm we've seen in the past," more than 33 million people have been affected by floods, over 1208 causalities and at a huge level of destruction of infrastructure. Millions of families have been affected by the devastating floods in Baluchistan, Sindh, and South Punjab.
The Government of Pakistan has termed the floods a “climate-inducted humanitarian crisis of epic proportions” and announced a national emergency appeal in Pakistan. Flood has shown much destruction and death in Pakistan and further risk of entrenching existing inconsistency and putting millions of people at risk due to hunger, health issues and many other post-disaster effects is still on.
We need to analyze the impacts of climate change and to enhance the building designs, strategies, and techniques to manage emergency situations. More Global warming means more glaciers and ice sheets will melt resulting in sea level rise. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution atmospheric CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide gas emission levels have been continuously increasing and most of that increase has been during the past 50 years.
Bio. Disaster of epic proportions should make us sit and think about the possible risks and threats and come up with a national strategy of how community can help in times of distress.
