Easy Sunnah Acts to Do Tonight for More Rewards in Dhul Hijjah 2025

Dhul Hijjah holds a great significance in the Islamic calendar, particularly its first ten nights and days(including Eid ul adha  10th day of Ashra e Zil Hajj). Muslims around the world eagerly wait for this blessed month to engage in various acts of worship, including Hajj, to maximize their rewards.

Sunnahs to follow on Ten Nights of Dhul Hijjah

He (PBUH) used to stay awake especially during the first ten nights of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and even kept his servants awake during those nights in prayer. It is important to remember here that when we mention the acts of worship during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, we mean the first nine days and ten nights.

Connecting with Allah in Tahajjud

Tahajjud is a spiritual practice that brings positive change in one’s life. Tahajjud is a time for deep personal connection with creator. It's a moment to cry out about one's problems and seek guidance. This prayer helps us avoid sins, control our desires and, become better person. Once you pray Tahajjud 40 nights  it turns a habit for life.

Salaf, the early generations of Muslims were known to keep their Tahajjud prayers hidden from others.

He (PBUH) said: Hold on tight to the night prayer. Indeed it is the habit of the righteous who came before you.

Many people find their prayers answered in Tahajjud making it a powerful way to seek divine assistance. Nawafil should be performed. Because of its great spiritual advantages and the close relationship it cultivates with Allah SWT, this act of devotion has a special position in Islamic practice.

Thus, whoever is unable to perform ḥajj can still perform acts of worship in these 10 days, the reward of which is greater than the reward of jihād; and the reward of jihad is greater than the reward of ḥajj.” – Ibn Rajab (raḥimahullāh).

Dhikr to seek forgiveness

Dhikr is one of the sunnahs actions one should follow to seek Allah's forgiveness and maximize your reward during the best ten days of the year.

Astaghfirullah al-'Adheem al-ladhi la ilaha illa Huwa al-Hayyul-Qayyum wa atubu ilayh.

Reciting Quran

Especially recite the Holy Quran in these best ten nights of Dhul Hijjah. Imagine the rewards you will earn from reading each letter during these blessed days when Allah has promised to multiply your reward!

The excellence of reciting the Holy Quran can be gauged from the fact that Hazrat Imam Malik, who was an extremely pious and righteous man and a great jurist and hadith scholar of his time, saw Allah Almighty in a dream one night. The Almighty God asked. O Lord! What do you want? He replied. O Lord, please tell me an easy and short way to reach You. So the Almighty God said in a dream. Recite the Holy Quran frequently.

Praise and praise Allah

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does” (Bukhārī).

Remember Him, no matter what color it is. One can also perform dhikr after your five daily prayers by reciting SubhanAllah-33 times, Alhamdulillah-33 times, and Allahu Akbar-34 times. Reciting SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise Him) one hundred times a day will erase sins, no matter how burdensome they are.

Ibn al-Jawzī (raḥimahullāh) writes, “The heedless one says سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ out of habit. As for the conscious one, he is constantly thinking about the wonders of creation, or the awesome nature of the Creator, and this thinking drives him to say سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ.Thus this tasbīḥ is the fruit of these thoughts, and this is the tasbīḥ of the conscious”.

These simple practices will ensure you remember Allah throughout the day and reap the blessings of Dhul Hijjah.

Sadaqah ( Charity)

Muhammad (saw) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah, knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him.’ [Muslim]

Hasan al-Basri (rh) said, ‘Going to fulfil the need of your brother is better for you than performing Hajj after Hajj.’

How You Can Maximize Rewards During These Best Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

Sacrifice following the Sunnah of holy Prophet (PBUH)

He (PBUH) always sacrificed three animals. These animals were usually sheep or goats. He (PBUH) would sacrifice one on behalf of his parents and all Muslims who had passed away. He would sacrifice one on behalf of himself and those of his Ummah who were unable to sacrifice due to lack of resources.

Every time we choose to contribute from what we have, we are giving up necessities and wants, which is why Allah (SWT) gives us such a great reward.

In Quran in Surah An-Nisa’ 4: Ayah 122 Allah (SWT) Says:

But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, We shall admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow (i.e. in Paradise) to dwell therein forever. Allah’s promise is the Truth; and whose words can be truer than those of Allah?
