Five things children in Gaza urgently need

After 15 months of relentless war, children in Gaza finally have temporary ceasefire. According to research findings, 5 percent of children under 2 years are acutely malnourished in Gaza. This is clear evidence that access to humanitarian aid is needed that can help prevent the worst outcomes. But it is only part of what children in Gaza need. There are five things which children in Gaza urgently need.

1st right now they need more of the food, more of the medicine, the tents that Alkhidmat is trucking into Gaza , and that means continued safe and unobstructed access for aid workers. Till now 23,466 tents and Tarpaulin had been possible with the help of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan.

Second Gaza’s children need to catch up on their vaccines and immunization. They need more and more safe water and sanitation to prevent disease outbreaks. This means by making urgent repairs to water infrastructure. Six water filtration plants have been installed in various locations across Palestine with the support of Alkhidmat. With a dedicated network of trained teams, volunteers, and strategic resources, Alkhidmat has worked tirelessly to rescue affected populations, deliver essential aid, and mitigate the devastating impacts of calamities and emergencies.

Third children in Gaza need functioning hospitals with a lot more capacity. Right now 80 percent of health facility in Gaza are either damaged or destroyed and there are tens of thousands of girls and boys with severe injuries with chronic diseases and medical conditions. So this means we need to restock critical medical supplies for children and there is so much infrastructure repair that needs to occur. On top of that, thousands girls and boys in Gaza urgently need medical evacuation right now.  Three Alkhidmat ambulances, 25, 677 hygiene kits and 19’989 baby kits have been provided.

Fourthly children need to be able to return to their homes and that means road repair that requires rubble removal and raising awareness on unexploded ordnance that continues to be a threat to children even when the bombs stop falling.  Alkhidmat Disaster Management has continued to serve as the front line responder, providing swift and effective assistance in times of crisis.

Lastly and most critically, the ceasefire must become a permanent ceasefire. If the fighting restarts, all the progress is lost. The cost of this war on the children of Gaza is already unimaginable. But we have to continue to seize this moment for all the children in Gaza and, your generous support makes this great work possible. Throughout this holy month of Ramadan, the blessings and impact of your Zakat donations are even greater!
