Afghanistan Earthquake Relief Banner

Devastation in Afghanistan

Afghanistan in 2025 stands on the edge of a humanitarian catastrophe. In late August, a powerful earthquake shook the eastern provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Nuristan, leaving behind scenes of heartbreaking destruction. Entire villages were flattened, more than two thousand lives were lost, thousands were injured, and countless families were left homeless overnight. Rescue workers struggled to reach remote communities as landslides and damaged roads cut off entire regions, leaving survivors without shelter, food, or medical care.
This disaster struck a nation already overwhelmed by crisis. Nearly half of Afghanistan’s population now relies on humanitarian aid for survival. Food insecurity has reached alarming levels, with millions of children and mothers facing malnutrition. Hospitals and clinics are shutting down as funding dries up, leaving pregnant women, infants, and the sick with nowhere to turn. Families returning from neighboring countries arrive to find no homes, no jobs, and no support, adding to the suffering.

Why Your Help Matters

In times of crisis, when families have lost everything, homes, livelihoods, and loved ones, your support becomes a lifeline of hope. The Quran and Sunnah remind us repeatedly of the immense reward and mercy that come from helping those in need.

Allah says in the Quran:
“Whoever saves one life, it is as if he has saved all of mankind.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32)

This verse reminds us that extending help to even a single person can carry the weight of saving humanity itself. Every donation, every act of kindness, and every prayer for those suffering brings us closer to Allah’s pleasure.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The most beloved of people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people. The most beloved of deeds to Allah is to make a Muslim happy, or remove one of his troubles, or forgive his debt, or feed his hunger.” (Sunan al-Kubra, Hasan)

Your contribution not only relieves hunger and provides shelter but also brings comfort to grieving hearts. It is a chance to be counted among those beloved to Allah.

By giving in times of need, we open the doors of blessings in this world and the Hereafter. Your support ensures that devastated families find warmth, food, and safety, turning despair into hope.

Why Your Help Matter

The devastating earthquake in Afghanistan has left countless families homeless, hungry, and struggling to survive. In these times of hardship, your help becomes a lifeline for those facing unimaginable loss. Every donation, every act of kindness, and every prayer brings them hope and relief

Allah (SWT) says:

"Whoever saves one life – it is as if he had saved all of mankind."
(Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:32)

The Power of Charity in Islam

Giving in the path of Allah not only eases the suffering of others but also brings immense blessings to the giver. Islam teaches us that helping those in need is among the most beloved deeds to Allah (SWT).

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"The most beloved of people to Allah are those who bring the most benefit to others."
(Al-Mu’jam al-Awsat)

How You Can Make a Difference

  • Provide food, clean water, and temporary shelter for displaced families.
  • Support medical care for the injured and trauma-affected children.
  • Contribute to rebuilding homes, schools, and livelihoods for long-term recovery.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

"The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity."
(Tirmidhi)

Frequently Asked Questions

What happened in the Afghanistan earthquake?

On the night of 31 August 2025, a powerful magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, especially in the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Nuristan. Many villages were destroyed, thousands of homes collapsed or were badly damaged, and many people were killed or injured.

Which areas are most impacted?

The hardest‐hit areas are remote and mountainous districts within Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Nuristan provinces. Many villages in Kunar are severely damaged or destroyed, and access to some remote communities remains very limited due to landslides, blocked roads, and rugged terrain.

What is being done to help survivors?

Numerous international and local organizations are responding: delivering emergency food, clean water, medicine, shelter, and warm clothing; mobile health teams are operating in affected areas; emergency assessments are underway to map needs; tents and temporary shelters are being set up.

What risks do people face now?

With many people displaced, risks include exposure to cold (winter soon), lack of clean water and sanitation (leading to disease), trauma, psychological distress, malnutrition (especially in children), and difficulty accessing medical care. In remote areas, delays in rescue and aid worsen the risks.

How many people have been affected?

More than 2,200 people have died, and several thousand (over 3,600) have been injured. At least 5,400 homes have been destroyed or severely damaged. Nearly half a million people are estimated to be affected overall.

What is the biggest challenge in delivering aid?

Key challenges include difficult geographic access (mountains, landslides, damaged roads), harsh weather conditions especially with winter approaching, shortages of medical supplies and shelters, damaged infrastructure, and limited funding. Also, many health centers had already closed from prior cuts, which makes recovery more difficult.

How can people contribute or get involved?

You can donate through trusted humanitarian/NGO organizations working on the ground. Sharing accurate information helps raise awareness. Some organizations also accept specific kinds of aid (clothing, medical supplies) and coordinate transport. Supporting medical, shelter, nutrition, and rebuilding programs is especially important.
