Role of community In disaster
Pakistan hit the severe climate changes this monsoon which caused massive flood. About 75% of Pakistan is going through the worst flood of the century. Mainly Balochistan and Sindh are amongst the severely affected areas. Over 33 million people have been displaced.
In this time of dire need, the people of Pakistan regardless of their political disputes came forward, hand in hand to rescue their fellow countrymen and showed highest selflessness. Most of the people volunteered to help their brothers and sisters in need to alleviate the pain via giving donations, rations, hygiene kits, clothes, clean water, housing tents in the high hit areas in collaboration with private organizations like Alkhidmat and Edhi. A hero from Swat, Wajid Ali who saved the lives of hundreds of people by making a bridge with ropes hanging over a raging river like chairlift to rescue the stranded people in the Bahrain area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are thousands of examples of such people.
Students are the future of a nation; these future heroes managed to establish medical camps, fund raising campaigns, women hygiene kits and are even providing the basic education to the affected children. Among these heroes are Maryam Jamali from UVAS Lahore who raised about $38,000 and Bushra Mahnoor from Punjab university raised funds to deliver 12,000 sanitary kits. Moreover, social media influencers played their role by spreading awareness and fund raising. Overseas Pakistanis also helped their brothers by sending donations to Alkhidmat and other NGOs.
Bio. We can’t even imagine how much pain they hold in their hearts. How are they struggling to survive? How helpless they are feeling right now?
