Rabi-ul-Awal is the third month of the Islamic calendar. It is remembered across the world as the month the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born. 

What is easy to forget is where the Prophet's own mission began. The very first word revealed to him was  a single word: Iqra  "Read." From that first moment, the pursuit of knowledge, or Ilm, was placed at the very heart of the faith.

Why Pakistan Needs This Now

Pakistan's education crisis is not a distant statistic. It shapes the future of tens of millions of children today.

These numbers hide real stories: a boy who passed his matric exam with excellent marks, then had to start working instead of continuing his studies. A brilliant student who reached university, then dropped out when the fees became too heavy to carry. Neither of these students lacked ability. What they lacked was opportunity.

Two-Thirds of Pakistan Is Under 30

of Pakistan's more than 240 million people nearly two out of every three are under the age of 30. Roughly 67 million people are between the ages of 15 and 29 alone.

Economists call this a demographic dividend: a rare window where a country has far more young people entering working age than older people leaving it. Handled well, it can power decades of growth. Handled badly, the same young population becomes a demographic burden  millions of capable people with no way to build a life for themselves or their country.

The difference between those two futures comes down to one thing: whether these young people are educated. Every rupee spent helping a student finish school or graduate from university is not just changing one life. It is shaping what kind of country Pakistan becomes over the next thirty years.

Before a Scholarship, There Is Often a Rescue

Long before a student ever applies for a university scholarship, many of Pakistan's most vulnerable children need something more basic first: safety, food, and a stable place to grow up. Over three decades, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has built a system that can walk a child through every one of these stages.

The Alkhidmat Academic Scholarship

The Alkhidmat Academic Scholarship (AAS) is Alkhidmat Foundation's flagship highereducation programme. It exists for one reason: to make sure a talented student is never forced to abandon their education simply because their family cannot afford the fees.

AAS supports students in universities, medical colleges, engineering programmes, and technical institutes, in every province of Pakistan, plus Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. It does not discriminate by caste, creed, colour, gender, religion, or political affiliation merit and need are what matter.

What AAS Has Achieved So Far

Among the 5,411 graduates: 651 doctors, 715 engineers, 260 associate engineers, 1,194 BS (Hons) / Masters graduates, and thousands more who completed intermediate-level studies with AAS support.

Why One Scholarship Changes More Than One Life

A single scholarship rarely helps just one person. A first generation graduate often becomes the turning point for an entire family, easing the burden on parents and keeping younger siblings in school. Because female literacy in Pakistan still trails male literacy by almost twenty points, every young woman who completes her degree helps close that gap for the next generation too. And because many AAS graduates return to under-resourced towns as doctors, engineers, and teachers, one scholarship can end up serving hundreds of patients or students over the course of a single career.
