Certificates were awarded to 43 prisoners who completed a six-month course at the Alkhidmat Skill Center in Central Jail Peshawar. The initiative, led by Alkhidmat Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aims to equip prisoners with skills for a better future, enabling them to reintegrate into society as respectable citizens after serving their sentences.

The ceremony, chaired by Khalid Waqas, Provincial President Alkhidmat Foundation, was attended by Provincial Minister for Prisons Humayun Khan, IG Prisons Muhammad Usman Mehsud, and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Mangat, Central Vice President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, who served as the chief guest. Other attendees included Alkhidmat officials, senior police officers, and city dignitaries.

The Alkhidmat Skill Center offers training in IT courses, leather goods production, tailoring, sewing, and embroidery. Prisoners completing the courses also learn skills such as making leather bags, purses, and shoes. Minister Humayun Khan announced a six-month sentence remission for those completing the program.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mushtaq Mangat emphasized the need to reform prisons into centers of rehabilitation rather than punishment. He highlighted Alkhidmat’s commitment to prisoner welfare across the country, advocating for societal acceptance of rehabilitated prisoners.

IG Prisons Muhammad Usman Mehsud echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of prisoner education and training to reduce recidivism and help them contribute positively to society and the nation’s development.
