Pakistan And History Of Disasters
Pakistan has encountered some major natural disasters in past and modern era, which resulted in disintegration of its foundation. All such disasters did major damage to economic status of our country. Many precious lives were lost, people became homeless, and infrastructure destroyed completely. Pakistan dealt with multiple events in past 2 decades in particular.
- Balochistan Drought (2000): 1.2 million people were affected with 100 mortalities due to dehydration.
- Kashmir Earthquake (2005): 75,000 people perished and many more became shelter-less.
- Cyclone Yemyin (2007): Floods in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan led to yet more deaths and homeless victims.
- Hunza Lake Disaster (2010): Landslide caused sliding of nearby houses in Hunza valley and downstream areas got flooded.
- Floods (2010): 20 million affected with an average ratio of 2000 deaths.
- Floods (2022): And recent floods resulting in drowning of 60% Pakistan.
As citizens of Pakistan, we have a responsibility to educate others on a societal level for the prospective nature of disastrous events.
