Alkhidmat on the frontline of flood disaster
Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is working tirelessly alongside many other non-profit organizations to continue providing rescue and relief work to families affected by the heavy monsoon rains and flash flooding, particularly in the worst-hit province Balochistan, Sindh and South Punjab. Over 1,200 people have died, and over 12,000 injured, as a result of flash flooding in 116 districts of the country and these numbers are expected to rise.
In Balochistan, Sindh and South Punjab, unprecedented torrential rainfall has already exceeded the 30-year record that started in early days of June month. Devastating flooding has damaged infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, and rail and road lines in flood affected areas. To date, over 1.4 million houses have been damaged and around 735,000 livestock have died, consequently leaving over 8.5 million people homeless and affecting the livelihoods of thousands of pastoralist families respectively.
Alkhidmat Foundation Central and relevant regions’ Disaster Management Teams are playing a leading role while constantly doing rescue and relief activities in flood affected areas all across Pakistan. In addition, thousands of Alkhidmat volunteers are walking miles through waist-high flood water and crossing hazardous tunnels, bridges and overpasses in order to supply lifesaving cooked food, drinking water, family tents, medicines and other necessities of life to flood affected families, women and children.
Alkhidmat teams and volunteers on the ground are remaining vigilant and have identified the following urgent needs of flood affected families: cooked food, dry ration, safe drinking water and family tents. Moreover, free medical camps facilities are urgently needed to provide health services to stop the outbreak of water-vector-borne diseases namely: cholera, diarrhea, malaria; eyes and skin diseases in flood-hit areas.
Please support Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan in its flood relief work to help families and communities whose homes and livelihoods have been devastated due to flooding and heavy rainfall.
