Zakat is a compulsory act of worship and one of the five pillars of Islam. Every adult Muslim who owns wealth above the Nisab threshold for one full Islamic year must pay Zakat to purify their wealth and help those in need.

&ldquo;Zakat is only for the poor, the needy, those who collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, those in debt, for the cause of Allah, and for the traveler.&rdquo;

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

&ldquo;Islam is built upon five pillars&hellip; including giving Zakat.&rdquo;

<h2 data-end="943" data-start="923">Why Zakat Matters</h2>

Zakat reduces poverty, supports the vulnerable, and brings blessings to wealth when given sincerely for the sake of Allah.

Zakat is a compulsory act of charity in Islam, designed to support the poor and those in need. Every adult Muslim who meets the required minimum wealth (Nisab) is obligated to give 2.5% of their qualifying wealth.

Allah says in the Qur&rsquo;an (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60):

&ldquo;Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and the needy, and for those employed to collect it, and for bringing hearts together, and for freeing captives and those in debt, and for the cause of Allah, and for the stranded traveler ,&nbsp;an obligation imposed by Allah.&rdquo;

By giving Zakat, you purify your wealth and contribute to a more just and compassionate society.

After my father’s passing, my education and hopes for the future began to fade. I felt lost and believed my life had come to a halt. Step 1: Add your assets (gold, silver, cash, savings, business stock, and investments). 
Step 2: Subtract short-term debts and liabilities. 
Step 3: If the remaining amount is above Nisab, pay 2.5% as Zakat.

Nisab is the minimum wealth required for Zakat to become obligatory.

	<li>Personal-use items are exempt.</li>
