A state of emergency has struck parts of Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir following heavy snowfall and land-sliding. Major roads connecting Balochistan with other parts of the country have been blocked and hundreds of the people have been stranded in the region. Meanwhile, serious damages have occurred to properties in Gilgit Baltistan (especially in Astore which suffered from an earthquake and aftershocks recently), and dozens of people have died and scores have sustained serious injuries due to landslides and avalanches in Neelum, Upper Neelum and Leepa regions of Azad Kashmir. More than 30 people have also been reported as missing in the Surgan valley region. According to local administration and Alkhidmat Disaster Management Program, most of the damages have been recorded in villages Lawat, Keil, Kudyaan, Baila, Lawaat Bala, Khorriyan Dudhniyal, Shaikh Bela, Dakki Chaknar and Ghori. In Astore valley of Gilgit Baltistan, more than 300 houses have been damaged and over 650 families have been displaced to combat the harsh weather.
